NIOSH takes nominations for hearing loss prevention awards
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is teaming up with the National Hearing Conservation Association (NHCA) to award employers who have instituted the best workplace hearing conservation programs.
The organizations are now taking nominations for the Safe-in-Sound Excellence in Hearing Loss Prevention Awards™, which were created to honor businesses and organizations with outstanding hearing protection programs. Applicants will be evaluated against key performance indicators that will assess hearing protection in the construction, manufacturing, and services industries.
A fourth award will also be given out that will honor an individual or business in any industrial sector for Innovation in Hearing Loss Prevention.
All awards will recognize groups that demonstrate how hearing loss prevention programs can benefit employees. A representative from the organizations honored with the award will also be given an invitation to the Annual Conference of the National Hearing Conservation Association.
According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), approximately 30 million people across the U.S. are exposed to hazardous noise levels in the workplace every year. Protect these workers' hearing by providing appropriate safety products, such as earplugs or earmuffs.
