The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently highlighted its role in giving state and local health systems the necessary tools and resources for providing public healthcare and responding to infectious, occupational, or environmental cases.
"CDC's Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response, Division of State and Local Readiness, administers funds for preparedness activities to state and local public health systems through the Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) cooperative agreement," the CDC stated. "Through the PHEP, CDC helps public health departments strengthen their abilities to respond to all types of public health incidents and build more resilient communities."
The PHEP agreement is important for helping state, local, tribal, and territorial areas fund their public health departments. The program has provided almost $9 billion to these departments since 2002. The CDC also provides the necessary guidance and technical assistance that public health systems need to ensure a strong healthcare community.
This work helps to cut down the risk of spreading harmful diseases, such as influenza. In addition the work of the CDC, employers can also help keep their workers healthy by providing hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes.
