The redesigned OSHA-NIOSH Heat Safety Tool App was recently released. This smartphone app calculates the heat index at outdoor worksites using the phone’s built-in geolocation software to pull current weather conditions from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) satellites. Based on the calculated heat index, the app supplies users with specific suggestions to protect outdoor workers against the dangers of heat, as well as information about training, hydration, monitoring workers for heat illness, and more.
Part of the recent update ensured the app’s recommendations reflect NIOSH’s most current Criteria for a Recommended Standard: Occupational Exposure to Heat and Hot Environments.
The free app
is available for Apple and Android devices in both English and Spanish.
