Batteries drain while off

The batteries will drain while off. Sometimes the batteries will stay fresh for weeks and other times they will drain down to dead within a few days. It's so consistent that I can't use the light. Pelican offered to look at it under warranty, but I have to pay for shipping which basically is not worth it. I feel like they should pay for shipping because their product is defective. The last example of this was this morning. I checked the light last friday and the batteries were fresh. I had not used it since putting a new set of Duracell in it. Tried it, worked perfect. Turned it off, put in my desk drawer at work, and over the weekend it sat. I check it this morning, was still off, turned it on, the light came on and was barely visible...batteries drained over the weekend.
