Dispose of Unwanted, Unused, or Expired Prescription Meds
October 27, 2018 is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. This nationwide event is sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and began in 2010 to address a crucial public safety and public health issue: the misuse and overuse of prescription drugs.

According to the 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.2 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study also showed that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet. Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands.

The DEA’s Take Back Day offers people a place to safely and responsibly dispose of their unused medications. The collection of these drugs prevents drug addiction and overdose deaths. There are collection sites in all fifty states. You can find a local disposal site here. Since 2010, 4,982 tons of drugs have been collected.
