8 Tips for Safely Using Your Weed Trimmer

Weed trimmers are an essential tool for landscapers and maintenance teams to keep property looking neat and well kept. Whether you’re new to lawn care or a seasoned veteran, take some time to consider these eight safety tips to minimize your risk of injury.

  1. Clear the area of stones, sticks, wire, and other debris
  2. Wear solid shoes with good traction to minimize the risk of slipping and losing control of the weed trimmer
  3. Wear tight-fitting clothing to minimize the risk of getting caught in trimmer
  4. Wear protective gear, including long pants, vibration-dampening gloves, eye protection, and hearing protection
  5. Use the correct fuel mixture for gas-powered equipment
  6. Keep the trimmer’s cutting part beneath the waist, preferably at knee height
  7. Turn off the engine and disconnect the spark plug when making repairs or working on the trimmer
  8. Be sure the engine is cool before refueling the trimmer
